  1. I have found that I am so much more successful in weight loss, if I start maintaining my body and
    appearence as well.

I treat myself to beauty-treatments at home. I do facial masks, hair-treatments, body-scrubs,
firming lotions and tanning. Plus I wear make up every day and shave my legs..*g*. This serves
    two purposes:

    1) I feel more confident when I know I look beautiful, although I am still a few lbs too heavy.
It makes me not fall off the wagon, because I constantly am in the process of looking and
    feeling better.

    2) When I spend time focusing on my body, when I scrub and lotion I see my body. I feel my body. And
when I do that, I am reminded of my goals. When I gained weight, I never looked at my body. I
never really saw and felt what was happening, and I kept gaining, because I was blind to all the
pounds coming on. I was only naked in the shower and that with my eyes closed most

still dressed (BF kinda likes when I am wearing one or two pieces - it is his..uhm.."preference".
Nudity doesn't do much for him..LOL) So I never really SAW myself. And the same goes for way back
when when I got really fat - we didn't have any large mirrors so I never really noticed the damage.

But when you spend time with your body and get to know it, you are more motivated to do something,
to stick with it. When you are overweight you tend to seperate your mind from your body. Although it
gets bigger and bigger, you are not "in connection" with your body. It is just there, quickly
dressed in whatever fits, because you don't want to look at it or don't really feel that this is the
true representation of who you are on the inside.

I have learned, however, that when you become aware of your body, really look at it, touch it, take
care of it, spoil it with lotions and treatments, you make the connection between your mind and your
body. Your body becomes yours again. And when it is your body, when you feel that it is yours, you
are more motivated to losing the weight and take responsibility for it.

Am I the only one who feels this way?

  2. This is an excellent post, Mette. Treating yourself is not only a great way to become familiar and
comfortable with your body, it's a nice reward to keep your spirits up. I agree - I definitely feel
more confident when I'm buffed, waxed, and polished. 😉

    Cheers, Petal

  4. Not at all, I shave my legs, and do some other beauty things because they
make me feel good. I don't wear make up as DH does not like it at all, so
that saves time in the morning. I do take very good care of my hair as it
is down to almost my waist and is a chore to keep looking nice. DH likes
long hair and so I make extra efforts there. I do think getting connected
to your body as an integral part of who you are is very important, Lee

No. I find that I can be much the same way. When I'm on a mission to look good and start using face
masks, conditioning treatments etc, I find it much easier to stay on program. I also use this as a
way to keep occupied, I use magazines etc to find cheap at home things I can try. Avocado makes a
great conditioning treatment for dry hair :-)
