Hi, I joined ww last week. I also bought a flex calculator. I noticed that it has activity points. How to you calculate these? Are there different points for different exercises? My leader never mentioned anything about exercise points.
Exercise points are added in the 4th week. You can ask your leader about it before hand, but you will get an activity point slider (like the food points finder) when you attend week 4. You will get materials for the program each week for 12 weeks, there are lots of helpful info in each week, but they rather give it to you a little at a time so it does not overwhelm you.

That's cool. I guess that means I don't have to exercise for a month. Right?
You don't have to exercise right now, but it will help.
Someone posted an article here that said you should strat by making yourself more active. Park at the wrong end of the car park, take the stairs not the lift or elevator. Fidget more. Shop with a basket instead of a trolley etc. I'm convinced it worked for me.
Exercise points are equal as far as different activities are concerned ... biking, walking, whatever. The calculation formula is based on weight, exertion level and amount of time spent. 100 calories burned = 1 Activity point. Here's the official formula ww uses: p=(w/50) * (e/85) * m
or (spelled out):
Points= (weight divided by 50) X (exertion level divided by 85) X minutes spent exercising.
Exertion level values: 1=light 1.5=moderate, ie: just breaking a sweat 2.5=heavy, ie: heavy sweating and difficulty carrying a conversation
hehehe - I know it's a little confusing, but thought I'd throw it out there for ya anyway.

Well, technically - you don't have to ever exercise. Your weight loss will be a bit faster if you do, and you will have loads of health benefits if you do. But ultimately, it is your choice. You can still lose weight without exercise (calories in vs. calories out) - just have to remember to eat less. I lost virtually all of my weight without exercising (not smart, but I did it) - I added exercise very late in the game, I think when I was into maintenance.

I have not started formal exercise as I was afraid it would make me have that overwhelmed feeling and I have not found anything I am ready to commit to for the rest of my life. If you have something you can do that you already like I think it will greatly enhance weightloss. I think I would have lost faster if I had been able to do this. I am currently just so grateful to be able to do some housework that I am not ready to deal with the other yet, Lee Joyce <[email hidden]> wrote in message "]news:[email hidden]...

One of the other benefits of exercising is that it helps tone you up. You can get to your goal weight a bit faster plus your body will be tone. Helps with the saging skin. This is why I joined Curves. I only go 3 or 4 times a week on my way home from work. I don't force myself to go either which is why I don't go every day. As long as I can afford to go I think this is one change that I can live with for the rest of my life.
