I don't think mine liked the addition of port. Mashed cooked chicken livers disappear magically!

My cat refuses any kind of a wet product and will only eat dry cat food (IAMS) and only that brand
and has done so for 16 years. He will occassionally meow for some butter if I'm using it, which he
gets, if he's in the kitchen at the time. So, not all cats are hard-wired for anything in
particular. Their tastes are as individual as any other animal.

Have her checked by a vet immediately!!!

My cat seems to be on the fringe of being a wild cat. Once (and only once, never again) I let him
outside, while I closely supervised him. He sniffed around, furtively at first, then he got brave
and started getting out of hand. Next thing I know, I couldn't catch him and he disappeared for
about 30 minutes. I was frantic. My wife would kill me if I let him get away. I looked everywhere,
calling his name, no longer caring that the neighbors probably thought I was nuts. At that point I
was almost in tears. I love the big fella!

Right when I was ready to give up hope, I heard a meow, and he was standing right there behind me.
I picked him up, and started to carry him home when he started getting antsy, and unleashed a
furious round of clawing directed at my face. I had to grip the hell out of him to get him inside.
He acted like he didn't know who I was for about 15 minutes or so after that. He's one step away
from being feral.

The only liver he will eat has to be raw. He also eats raw stew beef, and he'll even eat raw
hamburger. He won't eat any of those meats after they are cooked. The SOB is only two years old, but
he weighs about 17 pounds. But he's a loving cat though, really.

I've had that happen, both with a dog and a cat. It is frightening. Glad he came back.

(laugh) Before I ever had a pet of any kind, I agreed to cat sit for my sil. Had the cat in an
apartment down the shore. Well, I went to do some laundry, leaving the door open for a few minutes,
not being accustomed to having to worry about a pet. Holy crow, it was gone when I got back, I was
frantic. Okay, the door was open to a hallway, not to the outside, doesn't change the fact I could
not find that cat.

I wore myself out looking for the thing, finally lie down on the bed in despair, oh no, what am I
going to tell her? Lump under the bedspread. Cat had crawled up under the blankets somehow and was a
little flat nothing. Never been so happy to see a little flat nothing in my life.

You got it. This is a dry cat-food kitty. My previous housemate regarded anything but Friskies Mixed
Grill as prey. Imagine what a treat it was to clean up traces of tender roast duck from floor and
carpet after a long chase!

Reminds me of something Mandy did. Stupid workman left the bathroom window open after reglazing my
tub the day before and removing the exhaust fan that morning. Was in a hurry to go to work, never

There she was! Seems the thud i made when I flopped on the couch woke up the little darling, who
thought it would be nice to curl up rather INSIDE the couch. It was a sofabed, see, and there was
this space between the frame of the couch and the frame of the bed....and she was in there, tucked
away, under the skirt of the sofa. If we had moved the couch cushion when we took a cursory look
behind the couch, we'd have found her hours before!

They look at you like you're nuts, too. "Whaddya worried about? I wouldn't leave here! I got it too
good!" She cuddled for a few minutes then went and sat next to her bowl, meowing.

Hoot is not a people food lover. She likes a bit of tuna in oil a couple of times a year. Lately
she'll beg for Porter's Fried Chicken if we're having it. She will NOT eat it in her bowl. I have to
put small shreds on her footstool. The she'll curl her claws around a piece of it, fling it in the
air and then pounce on it. She will then bat it back and forth, then devour it. She then repeats the
process. Her daily food is Max Cat dry (hairball formula) and moist. Her favorite moist food is Beef
and Egg Skillet followed by Hunter's Stew.

I won't even go into what happens when I give her catnip.

Ahhh, Hoot is a Nutro-Kitty! Mine is too, but only for dry.

I was an in-store demonstrator for Nutro (Max Cat and Natural Choice, wet and dry, and they also
have dog foods) several years ago. It's a good product. One of the better ones and it's not
hellishly expensive.

I still cringe when I hear people brag about what great food Science Diet and Iams is. It's a step
up from Purina Cat Show, but it's still mostly ground yellow corn. It even smells like popcorn when
you open the bag. I like that the dry Natural Choice smells like chicken when i open the bag. If it
smells like chicken to me, it surely smells like it to my 9 lb furball with discriminating taste!

Mandy get the Natural choice complete care for weight management. Though I suppose I should switch
her to senior on the next bag.

For canned food, she didn't really care much for the Max cat. She's a Friskies girl. But giving her
the better dry food makes me feel less guilty. That's the only dry food she would ever eat, was Max
Cat. I was able to switch her over to the Natural choice because I got a lot of samples and I was
able to introduce her to it gradually, as they recommend.

I processed two young bantam roosters tonight. Selene devoured the testicles so quickly, I thought
she used a straw! ;-) I feed the cats any edible organ meats such as liver, testes, lungs and
spleen. The dish gets licked clean. The heart and gizzard are mine.

Got two bags of lovely rooster feathers for any fly tyers out there. <G> These were partrige color
so feathers are mostly black with a green sheen, but hackle and saddle feathers are gold tipped, as
are some of the shoulder feathers.

Next time I do muscovie ducks, anyone got a tasty recipe for duck liver pate'?

Last fall, I got home from a three week trip abroad, and found my cat Isadora under the barcalounger
chair. Being a true cat, she's good at finding the warm places, and one of her favorite hideouts is
under that chair. I think she must have forgotten how to get back out, as she was crying to be set
free when I walked in the door. I'm just glad I found her when I did. (Yes, the cats had had a pet
sitter to take care of necessities while I was gone.)

Isadora is also very fond of the kitchen cabinet where I keep my mixing bowls and various baking
dishes, and she's been shut in there, once or twice by accident. Fortunately, she has a very
distinctive mew and knows how to ask to be let out. Pan doesn't hide, he just drapes himself over my
shoulders whenever I sit down for more than five minutes and follows me doggedly from room to room.

By the way, you wrote that MaxCat doesn't have filler that bulks up the stool. Another word for
"filler" is "fiber." One would think, fiber is beneficial to cats for the same reasons it is

No. I didn't say MaxCat doesn't have "filler". I said it doesn't have "ground yellow corn", and it
smells like chicken, not corn. You need to learn to read for comprehension.

MaxCat does use grain as filler (which is not necessarily the same as fiber), but it's rice, which
is more digestible and has more usable nutrients than corn. Corn is tasty, but it's not all that
nutritious. For humans or cats. Iams uses "ground yellow corn"--the entire corn grain. The only part
of the corn grain that Max Cat uses is the gluten. And that's the only part that has any nutrition.

As for protein, if you read the labels carefully, you will see that the first ingredient on the Iams
label is "Chicken". Sounds good, right? Wrong!

The first ingredient on the MaxCat label is "Chicken Meal".

Meat, as you know is predominantly water. Ingredients are listed in order of predominance, by weight
BEFORE PROCESSING. If you mix 1 pound of ground chicken meat with 1/2 lb of corn meal, and bake it
until it's DRY, you are evaporating all the water and what you wind up with is basically a chicken
flavored corn meal cookie. Only about 1/5 of the weight of the meat remains after cooking until dry.
If you start with 1 lb of dry chicken meal (It takes 5lbs of chicken to get one pound of chicken
meal), and mix it with 1/2 lb of corn meal... you are actually getting more chicken protein by
volume than if you start with an equal amount of meat.

Iams may have "the same amount of protein" as Max Cat, but there is an awful lot more filler, in the
form of ground yellow corn meal, that has to get processed by your cat only to wind up in the litter
box. Why pay for something that has no nutritional value and that only serves to make your cat's
little body work harder and create more [censored] for you deal with????

All fillers are not created equally. Some are just filler. Others do provide much needed soluble
fiber and some nutrients. Corn is just filler. Oats and rice provide soluble fiber and plenty of
nutrients.
