  1. Just wondering if anyone that follows this group knows or knew frame builder Dave Tesch. I am trying
to find out what happened to him after he quit building frames in California. My wife just read me
an obit for a Dave Tesch here in the Milwaukee, WI area where his family lives. Any information
    would be appreciated.

  3. According to another list I'm on, it's one and the same. Apparently he had been battling a brain
    tumor for several months.

  4. I worked with Dave Tesch for about a year at a Cadillac Dealership in Tempe Az. He was a Mechanic. I was never really into cycling so I had no idea who he was, but he used to talk about how he used to build frames in CA. He moved back to Wisconsin a little over a year ago. I had heard he got brain cancer. A friend just e-mailed me the obit yesterday. Hope that helps.

🙁 I was informed from a friened that Dave passed away Dec 14th of a tumor. We had the pleasure of working with Dave at a Cadillac dealership in the Phoenix area for a few years. He had an unusual way of getting his point across, but he always made us laugh, or made us mad, hehehe. That is all the info I have at this time.

  6. Hello everyone, Just a few words to talk about Dave Tesch, I had the pleasure of working with Dave, at
Cadillac for @ 3 years. He loved tinkering around with
things, loved italian cars, and had one of the largest vocabulary
known to man, sometimes made up words that would blow your
mind! lol. Dave took alot of pride of anything he did, he always had something to build, fabricate, make better. Dave made us
laugh and sit back and say "WOW",Dave rode his bike to work alot(yes it was a Tesch) Loved his music at work loud. Dave could talk to you for hours at a time without missing a beat. I found out about his cancer about a year ago,and was saddened to hear about his passing . He will be missed ! RIDE-ON Dave.........

  8. Hey thanks folks.

I am Dave's sister. I want to thank you all for your observations. We are very fortunate that Dave moved back to Milwaukee these last two years. He was happy as he has every been up to the time the trouble started on February 26, 2003. He suffered terribly this last six months, but did it with strength and dignity, always believing that he would survive.

We are furtunate to be able to spend time with him and hear his astounding stories. The most astounding part was that they were true!! He worked for a great Cadillac dealership in Milwaukee and was able to make many new friends while getting up to date with his old ones.

Dave was actually starting to set up a workshop to build frames again, but did not have the time. If anyone wants any more information, please feel free to contact me. I will be sure to share with our parents and family.

I liked the comment: Ride On-- Dave --- In our hearts and in our souls.

    Thank you,
    Ann Marie Schulz

    🙁

  10. Ms Schulz...

Please accept my sincerest condolences for the untimely loss of your brother. I never had the opportunity to personally meet him, but I do own one of his frames, so in a sense I have met him.

His work was meticulous, his craftsmanship outstanding. I've had many bikes in my life, but my Tesch 101 is one I will NEVER part with.

    Stay strong...

    Paul

    Greetings all ,

I'm Dave Tesch's second cousin but more importantly, he was a close friend. Although I knew him my entire life, we were out of touch for 20 years. About two years ago, I got a call from him and found out he was working at a Cadillac dealer about 1/2 a mile from my house. We never got along as kids but I went to see him anyway. As soon as he opened his mouth, I knew it was Dave.

He told me he was a GM tech and I said, "What a coincidence. Let me show you something in my garage." When he saw my 1964 Corvette in a million pieces, his eyes lit up and we started planning the restoration immediately - in great detail.

Over the next two years, Dave and I worked side by side for countless hours meticulously restoring my car and a couple of his Alfa Romeos. This is when I finally got to know him. While he had grown up, he was in many ways the same Dave. A fountain of knowledge and information - whether you wanted it or not. What I enjoyed most was our free association sessions at his home where the subject was anything and changed on a whim.

Dave always had trouble getting people to understand him. Many doubted his exploits and could not believe the life he led thinking he invented much of his experience. The fact is he was a master bicycle builder, a pilot, an amazing mechanic, an automotive knowledgebase, a computer enthusiast and a few other things I probably never heard about. But he didn't exaggerate or invent his life. He lived it.

Two weeks before he died, we installed a set of sidepipes on my Vette. Dave insisted on doing all the welding and fabrication even though I knew that he was tired and feeling bad. He did an amazing job. It was the last time I talked to him – for the next two weeks he was unconscious.

I’m so glad I got to know him. Dave was a genius. His mental ability was beyond most people around him and he was known to get frustrated when others did not think as quickly has he did. This put off a lot of people who never got to know the real Dave. Generous to a fault, an over the top genius, sometimes obnoxious, a relentless perfectionist, a know it all who really knew it all – a great human being and my friend.

I hope he gets the recognition he deserves in death that he never got in life.
