Tyre repairs advice

I tried the type of repair you describe on a new Pro Race tire which got a cut about 1 cm long on my second ride with it.

I used a Park glueless patch, and then rubber cement from the outside. Didn't hold. A thicker glued-on patch may work better.

Thought about backing up the patch with a thin plastic "boot" (gator?) but never did try that; bought a 3000 instead.

If the cut is less that 3 mm and the tyre has more that 60 TPI then I can tell you that you can continue to use it, but any cut bigger than that is a riks.

If you continue to use it the check it before and after any ride, also after inflating.

Thre is no good/durable fix for that. In the old times people used to have another tyre inside with the sidewalls cut off.

Anyway in you case I would replace the tyre.

i've patched small holes with a gluable patch and it lasted for quite some time. when you're using the sandpaper to rough up/clean the surface, don't go crazy and cut into the threads of the sidewall.

1cm is pretty big, though. i'd say that tire is/was toast.

Have seen it done : didn´t work . Put it down to bad luck ( lost a michelin like this ) and replace . A good reason for using economic tyres in areas with lots of debris , it´s a pain isn´t it .
