  1. i keep pulling spokes through my back rim. i'm 17 stone, although i'm not fat, as my username suggests!! i managed to push out 491 watts on a kingcycle test with the back brake binding. i'm an ex-tester(sub 54 and a half 25). i'm not bragging just want to give you some idea of what my wheels are subjected to.

i ride a mtb and just commute, some riding on roads and some on trail. my current wheel is an lx with mavic d521 rim, double butted spokes. i've always had this problem, although this current wheel hasn't got 2k miles on it.

anyone else get this. don't know if deep section rims might help

    any advice welcome.

anyone recommend a good wheel builder??

    kevin

  2. Have you tried getting a DH wheel built up, you can get em with 48 spokes and all sorts of crazy stuff these days ?

  3. Lots of rims/ wheels are made for tandems : you cold try looking in that direction ( the name Rhino rings a bell ) , will check and reply Friday .

  4. Get a set of custom built wheels, built by a pro...they are much stronger and and a good tech can biuld a set of wheels that will match you and your riding style. Ain't as expensive and most people think!

Where are you located? Wheel shipping across the pond is very expensive or very slow.
D521 is a very strong DownHill Rim.
What model (hard annodized or silver) are you using?
What is the failure mode? (Cracking around the eyelets?)
Despite your power and speed, I think you can get a wheel to hold up for more than 2K miles.
Mavic 36 hole EX721, or Velocity Deep V 40 hole, or Velocity Psycho 36 hole, or Bontrager Clyde 36 hole should all work well.
We have over 9K on Velocity Deep V 40 holes on our tandem.
We are not as fast as you, but our power and weight combined stresses wheels more than 99.99% of single riders.
Make sure that tension is evely balanced, per side, on all spokes.
Some hard annodized rims crack at eyelets very early in the expected life of a rim. Some extrusions and heat treating processes cause premature rim failure.
Your use of double butted spokes should extend the durability of wheels.
