Klein - Pro and Con

I have a Palomino and really like it. I upgraded it with a fork I prefer and hydraulic disc brakes. It is one of the sweetest rides I own. However, like any bike it is not perfect. I rode them all before I chose the Palomino.

1st Pros: It is an all-around bike that does anything XC (it's not a freeride though). The plush tuneable suspension works as advertised - no bob! It is reasonalby light (mine with a few upgrades is under 25lbs).

Cons: The geometry doesn't fit everyone - real short and tall people I know just can not fit it. The front derailleur is a real pain at times and does not allow just any new crank or bottom bracket upgrade due to changes to the stringent chainline. If you are Shimano fan this is not a problem (I tend to stray away from those dark monopolizing companies). Supposedly Klein fixed some of these problems in their 2004 model.

My next upgrade will be the originator of the Palomino - a Maverick (After I win some lottery that is).

I am just going to have to conviince my LBS to let me test drive on a nearby trail.

I need to try some other rides too. Another shop wants me to try Giant, Cannondale and Speciallized.

...just too many choices.

I used to ride a hardtail Cannondale but now have a hardtail Klein - best bike I ever had! I can't stay off of it!
Sorry I don't have any feedback about the suspension models.

I would suggest taking in one of the Trek Demo Day events. You can ride all of the high-end Trek, Gary Fisher, and Klein bikes. At least at ours, you could take them for a nice long ride. They have all the different pedals and will mount them on a bike for you. Just bring your shoes.

BTW, I have a Klein Adept Pro and love it. I would definitely buy another Klein.
