Boyer received a probationary sentence. If he should violate the terms of his probation, he could do
something like 20+ years in prison.

No, but being one of the first French speaking Euro-pros might have
consent laws. I am seriously guessing he was able to act on his urges in France and get away with it
and that led him to believe it is "ok" to seduce young girls. He got in to trouble when he came home
to others that do not think the same way. FYI, most of the continental European countries have
similar if not exactly the same attitudes and laws that more or less allow this.

Girl accuses famed Seaside bicyclist Molest charges filed against Boyer
By Kelly Nix The Californian
------------------------------------------------------------------------
A Seaside man who was the first U.S. cyclist to race in the Tour de France has been charged with 10
felony counts of child molestation.
Jonathan "Jacques" Boyer, 46, was arrested by Seaside police May 16
several years. Boyer posted $300,000 bail and was released.
Boyer appeared in a Salinas courtroom July 17 to get a preliminary hearing date for Aug. 9. He
faces a maximum of 80 years in prison if convicted.
According to a complaint by the Monterey County District Attorney's Office, Boyer is charged with
seven lewd acts with a child under the age of 14 and three counts of penetration by foreign object
from Sept. 1, 1997, to Sept. 1, 2000. The girl was 11 when the alleged molestation began.
"It's a very unfortunate situation," Boyer said Tuesday from his bicycle store, BoyerSports in
Marina. "I don't really want to talk about it. I can't really comment."
Boyer's attorney, Tom Worthington, didn't return a phone message left Tuesday.
Boyer competed in the Tour de France five times beginning in 1981, placing as high as 12th place.
He trained under Cyrille Guimard, who also coached current Tour de France racer Lance Armstrong.
Boyer was inducted into the United States Cycling Hall of Fame in 1998.
Between Aug. 1, 1998, and Sept. 1, 1999, the complaint alleges that Boyer molested the girl in her
bed in the morning. Similar charges also allege that Boyer molested the girl while speaking to her
in French and
Monterey County Deputy District Attorney Tim Roberts said only one victim has made allegations
against Boyer. Roberts declined to comment on the relationship between the victim and Boyer.
Boyer began competing in races in Carmel in 1970, according to information on a Web site called ASI
Online Magazines and Newsletters.
The district attorney's complaint lists Boyer as living in Seaside but Boyer has lived in Carmel.

Err, that isn't exactly a court report. There have been plenty of rumors involving Davy Crockett and
goats as well but I don't take them at face value either.
