  1. Hello I have a 7 speed Raliegh Cruiser bicycle about 2 years old and heres my question sometime when
I am riding maye I could be in 2nd gears -the gears sometime slipp and I was wonder how I can I
prevent this? or do I need new gears? Are the gears slipping because I don't pedal when changing
gears? Am I suppose to pedal and switch gears at the same time? thanks for any assitance Mark Panitz

7 speed with a gear hub, or 7 speed via a derailleur? If it's a gear hub, the place to start is the
cable adjustment. If it's a derailleur, there are several possible issues; it could be a simple
adjustment, or it could be wear in the cassette teeth and/or chain.

Shift to the middle gear and then look to see that the two small red marks are lined up on the
control plates next to the rear sprocket. If not, turn thecable adjuster until they are. Check your
work by shifting afew times, then stop in the middle gear and look again.

If the cable and casing are kinked or rusted your system might be adjusted correctly but not
returning smartly. Check that and then either lubricate or replace the cable as needed.
