Shortest End to End route

The west coast is greatly more indented, particularly in the west of Scotland. Consider riding round
the Mulls of Galloway and Kintyre, Cowal, Ardnamurchan, for example. Then, what do you do between
Mallaig and Lochalsh? There are no roads, in the modern sense. Do you go round by Invergarry? That's
half way across Scotland, twice. I should not be surprised if the route up the west coast was twice
as long as that up the east; certainly 1.5 times as long.
