  1. Opinions on 36h vs. 48h hubs? I've built enough road and mtb wheels to be of the opinion that 36h
    on a 24" for an urban assault bmx is gonna work just fine but as I don't ever recall having built a
    48h bmx wheel thought I'd get an opinion (not that there 're many 'round here) before I got the
    parts together.

    Are you going for large diameter hub flanges?
    Are you doing jumps?
    Do you wiegh over 200 pounds?

    If all above are yes, then 48 spoke wheels are worth the cost of a dozen extra spokes per wheel.

    I would think the more pertinent issue is rim room. A 48h _24"_ wheel is going to be hard to swing a
    spoke wrench into. I have a 40h 27" wheel (tandem spec, I think) and it looks pretty busy.

    A 36h 24" is a very sturdy wheel; a 48h 24" wheel is a lot more spokes, and a still-stronger rim.
    You could probably ride off the roof of your school with such a rim.

    There's no such thing as a 48h rider, though.

    I hadn't thought of the wrench clearance, good point. Pretty much thinking 36h now which was the
    first inclination. And 48 is gonna look kinda busy I agree.

    I dunno... right now "school" (aka work) is a 6 story theatre... I guess I was wondering if people
    who'd built a lot of bmx wheels had seen much practical advantage to 48h? Or is it overkill? I think
    a bike should have what it needs to work well and nothing more. Keep the geek factor low.

    I have an ISO 305-mm ("16-inch"😉 front wheel with 36 spokes. The chord distance between adjacent
    spokes is approximately 2-1/2 cm (1-inch).

    Of course, one wonders why Alesa only makes their ISO 305-mm rim in a 36 hole version. (The hub was
    custom made by Phil Woods to Earth Cycles requirement, so that was not the determining factor).
