Id love to hear from all the bike enthusiasts out there - whats the most ridiculous thing youve ever done to plan a bike-friendly commute, and did it actually pay off in the long run? Im talking about going above and beyond the usual Google Maps route-finding and bike lane scouting - I mean truly extreme measures, like mapping out every single pothole on your route, or developing a complex system of flags and signals to communicate with other cyclists.
And while were on the topic, whats the deal with all the conflicting advice out there on how to plan a safe and efficient bike commute? One website tells you to always follow the same route, while another says to mix it up to avoid getting too predictable - and dont even get me started on the whole helmet debate. Can anyone really say for sure what works and what doesnt, or is it all just a matter of personal preference?
It seems to me that there must be some kind of secret sauce that separates the truly bike-friendly commuters from the rest of us mere mortals - so, whats your secret? Do you have a special app or gadget that helps you navigate the mean streets, or is it all just a matter of experience and instinct? And what about all the non-cyclists out there - what do you think is the most important thing that cities can do to make commuting safer and more appealing for people on two wheels?
