SRTM Visualisations

The data has only recently become available from the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission and has spot
heights at roughly 90m intervals. I had to interpolate it and filter out a few voids. The voids
appear as giant columns towering into the sky - I wonder if they were caused by aircraft getting in
the way ?

Tracing over a map, the interpolated heights pretty accurately resemble the OS contours and spot
heights - the error is usually within 5m. If you want me to produce any more please let me know, it
would be interesting to compare with a photograph if anyone has one. It would have to be on either
the Dark Peak, White Peak or the Lakes Explorer maps as these are the only ones I have.

But what we really want is something that lets us rob OS maps etc. (without Mike knowing) from
the web (-:

Do you have any image software that can view PNG's ? Try doing a 'save as' and then opening it in
something other than IE. Can anyone else view them, if not I'll convert to JPG.

I'm writing the software at the moment. I'll be in the next release of Trailgauge, my shareware
mapping software. I'll try and post some screencams aswell, it looks most impressive as you fly-
through or walk-through the terrain in realtime.

You should have seen the first attempt, Haweswater was half way up Harter Fell and Blea Water was on
top of High St.

The are both the same except for the format being different i.e. AVI and WMV. Try the AVI first as
the quality suffered a bit on the conversion to WMV.
