GPS query

Yes you can buy Serial Port to USB converter (may be about £35, so not cheap though). See for
example the cables section at Tracklogs.co.uk

Get a USB to serial converter such as those offered by Lynks (who also do a lot of GPS cables):

Why not just get a serial to USB adaptor?

Some work, some can be problematic. If you can, get one that uses the FTDI chip. They work the best
in most circumstances.
