Quoted message said:Hello all,
This puts me in a slight quandry. Firstly, is this new information correct? And if it is, do I
go for the Silverhill Colliery site, the Newtonwood Lane top or both? (I frankly go for the
latter).
My list has Newtonwood Lane at 203m but the GR of SK462598.
Why not leave it until a later top, when the issue might well have been sorted out. Or do both, or
just pick one. If you make a reasonable choice, nobody is going to quibble.
Pretty much how I feel. Doing both gives me an excuse for another or an extended walk.

that I can see close by. That to me is good enough, I don't comb every inch of lend ensuring I
have found the exact spot.
Ditto, although in the case of Boring Field (Huntingdonshire's highest point) I was at a loss to see
where in the field it could possibly be. I am interested to see that your list has a different grid
ref. for Newtonwood Lane - which list is that from?
Quoted message said:What ever you do, remember that the tick list is just an excuse to get out walking in new areas,
not a reason of its own. Otherwise, you do need a life.
Yep. It actually came about because five years ago I decided to do a walk in every county in the UK,
and walking to the highest point seemed like a good way of doing it, end of exploring the country as
a whole. This aim has rather been superseeded, however, and nearly 600 walks later I am starting to
get back to doing them.
I have just come back froma 17 mile local walk - from Doveridge (near Uttoxeter) past JCB and
through the HCB testing grounds to the Weaver Hills. I have loved these hills since I was a
schoolkid and the views over the Trent Valley are superb on a clear day like today, but the hills
themselves are ratehr spoilt by the large quarries on its western flank. ;-(
Ta, .David.
