  1. Are shorter cranks on a road bike actually beneficial for urban cycling, or is this just another marketing gimmick catering to the Im a serious roadie, but I ride in traffic crowd. It seems to me that shorter cranks are only useful if youre riding in stop-and-go traffic or swerving through pedestrians, but for actual maneuverability in traffic, cant we just improve bike handling skills instead.

    Some say shorter cranks reduce the amount of torque needed to turn the pedals when youre in a tight spot, but isnt that just a cop-out for lack of upper body strength. I mean, if you cant swing a leg over the saddle in a pinch, maybe you shouldnt be riding in traffic to begin with. Im starting to think the benefit of shorter cranks is negligible and its all just a ruse to get people to upgrade to a city-specific crankset. Are we getting too caught up in relying on gimmicks and tech, instead of actually learning to ride our bikes. Or am I just completely off the mark here.
