Battery Protection from Elements is a crucial aspect of e-bike design, yet many manufacturers seem to be cutting corners in this department. Ive seen numerous instances of e-bikes being marketed as all-weather or all-terrain without adequate protection for the battery.
Whats the point of having a water-resistant frame if the battery is still exposed to the elements? Ive lost count of how many times Ive seen e-bikes with batteries that are essentially just wrapped in a thin layer of plastic, with no real protection from moisture, dust, or extreme temperatures.
And dont even get me started on the so-called waterproof batteries that are supposedly designed to withstand the rigors of off-road riding. Ive seen these batteries fail in as little as a few months, simply because they werent designed with adequate protection from the elements.
Can someone explain to me why e-bike manufacturers are so reluctant to invest in proper battery protection? Is it really too much to ask for a battery that can withstand a little rain or mud without short-circuiting?
And what about the environmental impact of all these failed batteries? Ive heard that lithium-ion batteries are notoriously difficult to recycle, and yet were seeing thousands of them being discarded every year due to inadequate protection from the elements.
It seems to me that e-bike manufacturers are prioritizing profits over performance and sustainability. Am I missing something here, or is this just another case of manufacturers cutting corners to save a buck?
