    Having been suckered in:

    People (i.e., real humans) posting on this topic in another bike forum have mostly come to agree that, assuming that users are capable of remembering to charge their batteries every couple of months, e-shifting is as reliable as most mechanical systems---and more reliable than the 11-speed Shimano STI version, which has a tendency to snap the rear shift cable inside the shifter body, where the remnant of the cable is almost inaccessible and thus nearly impossible to remove.

    This discussion reminds me of an elderly neighbor of mine who, when he was in the market for a new car in 2008, went to a lot of trouble to find one with wind-up windows, because he was convinced that electric windows were unreliable.
