A sunny late October walk from the small village of Buriton, Hampshire. The start was south up a
steep bank through The Hangar to join the South Downs Way leading to Queen Elizabeth Country Park.
Passing through the eastern side of the park, still heading south, we crossed fields to the even
smaller village of Chalton. Great little thatched pub, The Red Lion. From Chalton, it was east on
the track towards Cowdown Farm, but turning north halfway along the track to join a footpath heading
towards Eckensfield. Following the path around to Ladyholt, Clare and I dropped down into West
Harting Down. A short walk through the woods, followed by going up a steep hill to Ditcham Park
School. Continuing on through Oakham Bottom wood, we had a very short walk on the South Downs Way
before following the Cart Track back to Buriton. The weather was superb for late October, shorts and
T shirt all the way.
Distance 9.3 miles in 3 hours 20 minutes.
Not quite as exciting as Roger's recent TR of his marathon Lakeland walk ..... but still
very pleasing.
