Merrill. Converted a few years ago. FWIW, the brand is far less important than the fit.

For clement weather where grip isn't an issue: Adidas Supernova (retired running shoes).

For the mud and wet grass, outside of winter: Adidas Davos - fell shoes.

Otherwise: Meindl Burmas, for which I still owe the wife a pile of dosh.

We are Day Walkers (for fitness so we walk fast) around the Surrey area and use Zamberlan Civettas
all year round, they are now quite a few years old and I would buy them again.

For walking in the Pyranees I used some Karrimor sandals but generally I use Karrimor Cheviots. I've
just bought some Kolfach plastic boots and some Charlet Moser S12 crampons so that's what I'll be
trying them out on some winter route.

I use French army 'Rangers' and in wet weather I wear Matterhorns (leather with Goretex lining,
similar to the British army Pro boot) or my trusty Dachsteins <sp>.

If you're going fast, consider an off-road trainer or "approach shoe". Lighter, so better for speed.
If you're not carrying big loads then there's no real reason to wear anything with an ankle cuff
around Surrey: not like you'll be banging your ankles on the long scree runs, and they just add
weight and reduce comfort (Zamberlan suggest them for "backpacking and tough hiking"😉. You may well
be using more boot than you really need.

Are the Dachsteins still available?? Here in Holland they are out of bussiness a few years now,
thats why I got the mephisto`s

No doubt we are but...

If you see the state of our boots and socks sometimes, those brambles across the paths would tear
material boots to bits I suspect. They have even cut into the leather of Sue's boots (or was it some
barbed wire). The weight adds to the fitness bit. :-) They are so comfortable, never even a sign of
a blister. They take the winter rain/mud/ice etc, with ease and are not too hot for summer, they
also will take us almost anywhere we go on holiday (recent trip to Exmoor), so we don't need any
other boots. However, when we need to buy new I might well look at the alternatives but they will
need to be good in mud, and not clog.

I do not know if they doing walking boots but they seem to be doing ski boots still.

Whereabouts are you in Holland? I used to live in Rosenburg and Rotterdam and I still spend a lot of
time in Geldermahlsen.
