Nicholson Baker in various essays and in his essay collection 'The Size of Thoughts' has quite a bit
about modern library science and the devastation it has wrought on collections. My local library has
tossed most of its Anthony Trollope to free up shelf space for Joanna. You can cry, you can curse,
you can pound on the table...but you can't convince the Kendal librarians that the old OS maps have
historical value and are worth preserving.
