Sad fact: I used to host a couple of personal websites from a laptop. Certainly saved buying a UPS.

I run a mail server from a lapop for the same reason. I wrote a script to interact with APMD letting
me know by email when and if it switches from AC to battery and vice versa. APMD is a great.Simon

I did. It died a year ago. Actually, the one I bought (second hand) died four years ago, the one
that died last year was one I blagged. I use scrounged and cobbled-together equipment, always have.

Having said that, I should get my act into gear and stick a UPS on my machine at home. Nearly got
round to using a spare one from the lab but it then found a use (and is quite heavy to lug home on
the bike.)..d

Also RAID. My home and work partitions are on a journalled RAID filesystem, which should make them
immune not only to sudden powerouts (although the box in on a UPS so that shouldn't happen either)
