  1. I just wondered if there were any free guides on the internet to using a compass and finding your
way around maps (preferably using Ordnance Survey as examples rather than the US system) ???

Don't know about the Web, but Peter Cliff's "Mountain Navigation" is very good, and of course you
can take it with you to practise which is a nice point. Menasha Ridge Press; ISBN: 1871890551

There is absolutely no substitute for practice, once you've read up the basics! To get much better
at interpreting maps and route finding, orienteering is well worth looking into. As well as basic
"where am I" map work it also encourages you to plan where you're going and how to get there.

I have a section on Navigation under the Snowdonia section of my Walking in Snowdonia site (www.walk-
snowdonia.co.uk). I hope this is of some use to you.

    Best wishes,

Excellent www site. Well laid out and a treat to navigate.
