It is very sad.
But it _is_ still safe. There are zillions of cyclists and very few = serious accidents. It just
seems worse than it is because cyclists are = better networked than car drivers, and swap horror

I actually feel in more danger whist travelling by car than by bike - possibly due to the higher
speeds involved.
