My wife is completing her massage training and has taken an interest is going further into infant massage. She has only found limited information on the subject at this point. (Although she is busy with her classes....)
I do not know of any classes to suggest. Best thing for her to do it talk to someone at her school as they can surely direct her to some specific training classes.

My colleague is an infant massage instructor and received her training through the International Loving Touch Foundation. She was very pleased with it. Even if your wife decides to train elsewhere, there is lots of good info on their website. www.lovingtouch.com
Hope this helps. Erin

I've wondered a bit about infant massage...I think that if I were a CMT, I'd be too worried about injury to even consider it. So, is infant massage generally confined to the limbs?

From what I know, infant massage is very light touch, just to relax the baby. There would be no chance of hurting the baby. I believe also that all the body is massaged, as long as the baby let you.
I don't know of any CMTs that actually work on infants. What I was referring to was an Infant Massage Instructor, who holds classes for the parents of infants (anywhere from about 2 wks to crawling age) to teach them how to massage their babies. It's a wonderful thing for parents to do because it encourages bonding, builds trust, is very nurturing, and benefits the babies' overall health and well-being. In turn, it helps the parent to feel more competent because babies generally respond very positively to it. The classes I know of use a full body protocol, and are very gentle with absolutely no chance of injury to the baby.
Another thing I know of, and actually have a bit of training in, is massage for premature or health deficient newborns. This can be performed by a CMT in the Neonatal ICU, or can be taught to the nursing staff or parents. It has been shown to be highly effective work for stimulating all levels of development and growth. Pretty amazing stuff if you're interested. You might check out www.babysfirstmassage.com

FWIW, I think it is pretty obvious that infants LIKE massage. I don't claim to do any sort of massage, but when my kids were in the "turkey" stage of development (where they hold their legs like a supermarket turkey), if you'd gently rub their legs they would extend them fully and stretch...what can I say? I guess I am easily amused. <g>
