    Garbage Casserole

    1 pound chop meat 1 onion, chopped 1 green pepper, diced 1 can tomato soup
    1/2 cup milk
    2/2 pound velveeta cheese, diced
    3/4 cup raw elbow pasta, cooked

    Brown chop meat and drain the fat. Add onions and peppers; cook for 2 = minutes. Add tomato soup and
    milk; simmer 15 minutes. Stir occasionally. Add = cheese=20 and pasta. Pour into a greased (or use

    I think the OP meant to type "chopped" meat which some folks call ground meat.

    We would probably call it hamburger, unless it's (finely) chopped cooked meat.

    No, silly. That's called "musgo soup." You clean out the refrigerator and throw in everything
    that must go.

    remember. She was a pretty good cook, so she didn't do anything stupid like making tuna salad and
    buttermilk soup. blech.

    Standard practice here at Chez Lisette. Whenever I have veg in the refrigerator that's getting
    close to the end of its shelf life, I make soup. I wouldn't call it garbage soup though! Yesterday
    I made soup with the broccoli that was getting close to going off, it was really nice. I always
    keep some cream in the fridge just for this purpose. Everything tastes better with a bit of cream,
    dontcha know!

    I believe it was Ruth Reichl who wrote in "Tender at the Bone" how she learned to cook defensively,
    in part because of her rather peculiar mother's habit of tossing every leftover -- moldy veg, meat,
    cake, salad -- into a single pot and serving it up.*Truly* a Garbage Casserole. OTOH, Phillip
    Craig's (mystery) protagonist makes "Refrigerator Soup," which doesn't sound bad at all.

    Wheew! Let me tell you what my sister does and it's actually GOOD. She makes pot roast or beef stew
    and adds about 1/2 cup of sweet sherry to it while it's cooking. Other than the sweet sherry, it's a
    regular pot roast/stew to me. The following day, she takes ALL of the leftovers and makes soup. I've
    never done that... ever, but hers is great!
