  1. O/T -

Would anybody like to comment on the differences between the Christian concept of forgiveness (for
one's sins) and the Jewish concept?

Let me first point out that you, Stephen, who constantly whines, bleats and complains about
religious discussions in newsgroups, initiated this thread.

    <rolling eyes>

    I'll take the Christian side.

This is simple. When you accept Christ and He represents yo to His Father, you are saved from sin
    and it's consequences.

    Your turn.

OK. The Jewish side is not so simple.

In Judaism there are two kinds of sin - a sin against God and a sin against Man. For a sin against
God, only God can forgive you. You demonstrate your desire for forgiveness from the Almighty through
sincere prayer, through sincere repentance, and through charitable acts (all three are needed) - and
your sin against God is forgiven.

A sin against Man is another story. As I understand it, in Christianity a serial rapist and thief
can obtain absolution for all his sins by accepting Christ with all his heart. In Judaism, one who
sins against Man must obtain forgiveness from the person he or she sinned against before he or she
can - through prayer, repentence, and acts of charity - be forgiven by God.

Judgement Day? God has a sort of scale whereupon He weighs one's good acts against one's bad acts.
You don't have to be "perfect" to get into Heaven, but you must be sincere - AND the good must
outweight the bad. I suggest that serial rape and theft is a very very heavy "bad."

But the idea that if Adolf [censored] sincerely accepted Christ while in his bunker, then [censored]'s sins
against mankind would be absolved, and he would wind up in Heaven - now *that* I find just plain
ludicrous. Just as ludicrous as Dr. Chung's assertion that Gandhi could not gain entrance to heaven
    *unless* Gandhi sincerely accepted Christ.

First of all, this is an issue of faith. What one believes. But if Man decides not to forgive,
then you are not forgiven. According to the Jewish FAITH, God does not demand an "unblemished

Actually, Mu, it's an important question. Of course one doesn't "know." You don't have access to a

I wonder what Gandhi's soul would have thought about finding itself in Christian heaven, after
living a life fully expecting to be reincarnated. He'd have been running screaming down the hall
away from the Golden Gates toward the gates of Hell.

There are two big problems with death bed conversions. One is that on reaching heaven, you might not
recognize it and make yet another wrong choice (after a life time of wrong choices). The other is
that you deprive yourself of having lived some or all of your life knowing that you are in a state
of Grace. So don't wait. Do it now. Hey, it really might be your last chance.

such. I'm speaking of God's granting of undeserved favor, unconditional love and forgiveness to

Thank you Jesus for getting rid of all this junk and allowing me to be certain of my salvation.

Yes, thank you Jesus for ALL you've done for us all.

What about the concept of Grace - is that found in Judaism? Any other religion? I'm not aware of
any such. I'm speaking of God's granting of undeserved favor, unconditional love and forgiveness
to those who have been saved by Jesus.

Steven, don't forget that you don't have to stop being Jewish to become a Christian. St. John
    was both.

Hey ear. May I call you ear? When you post those nasty but contentless posts, you're crowding Chung.
He's the master of this newsgroup and what he says goes. I trust you've noticed that he's addressed
you more than once about your posting here.

You might want to clam up before he gets irritated with you and starts preaching at you and
telling you that you look like Satan and that you're definitely going to hell and that you're
    gonna die soon.
