Whats the point of having multiple battery safety certifications, such as UL, CE, and EAC, if manufacturers can simply cherry-pick the one thats easiest to obtain and claim compliance? Doesnt this undermine the entire purpose of having these certifications in the first place? It seems to me that this is just a case of regulatory capture, where manufacturers are more interested in ticking boxes than actually ensuring the safety of their products.
And what about the testing procedures themselves? Are they rigorous enough to catch potential safety issues, or are they just a formality? Ive seen cases where batteries have been certified as safe, only to later be recalled due to safety concerns. This raises serious questions about the effectiveness of these certifications.
Furthermore, whats the difference between these certifications, anyway? Is it just a matter of different testing procedures, or are there actual differences in the standards themselves? And how do we know which certification is actually more stringent?
Id like to see some real data on the effectiveness of these certifications, rather than just relying on manufacturer claims. Have there been any studies on the safety record of batteries with different certifications? And what about the cost of obtaining these certifications - is it a barrier to entry for smaller manufacturers, or is it just a minor expense for larger companies?
It seems to me that the whole system is ripe for abuse, and that manufacturers are more interested in appearances than actual safety. Can anyone shed some light on this, or am I just being overly cynical?
