  1. My 81 yearold exRn mother bough me a donut that didn't have any sugar coating. I ate it with a glass
of mild and my BG's went up over a 100 units.

Is milk part of the problem? A google search says milk triggers the autoimmune system to kill
    beta cells.

    thanks Jim

    Yes.

Sounds unlikely. The problem with milk is the carbs, pure and simple. Your doughnut probably had 25
grams of carbs and the milk another 12 grams. So a 100 mg/dl increase in blood sugar isn't at all
    surprising.

  3. I drink all the time when I'm hypo. Works quickly, although not as fast as glucotabs, but I hate
those things. I pop a couple of them if I have to, but would rather have a banana or milk with
some choc syrup added for even more sugar. I never drink milk without bolusing for it when my bg's
    are NOT low.

Donuts and milk are both high in carbs. Keep in mind it is carbs that raise BG. Yes, sugar is a
carb. But it's no worse for you than the flour in the donut or the lactose in the milk in terms of
    raising the BG.

Milk could VERY possibly be the cause. Why?? Because milk is loaded with sugar.

Some of us use a glass of the stuff to raise our blood sugars when we're low.

The starch in the doughnut may be as bad as any sugar coating for quickly raising blood sugar per
    unit mass.
