Why do so many of you supposedly experienced riders still insist on wearing those flimsy, useless arm and leg warmers instead of proper protective gear like knee and elbow pads? Are you all just trying to look pro or something? Newsflash: youre not racing the Tour de France, youre just putzing around on your weekend group ride.
And dont even get me started on the helmet debate. Ive seen riders sporting those sleek, aero helmets that are only rated for speeds up to 25mph, yet theyre bombing down mountain descents at 40+mph. Do you know what kind of catastrophic damage that could cause in the event of a crash? Its like youre all begging to become a human pancake.
And whats with the obsession over aero this and aero that? Youre not going to shave off enough seconds to make a difference in your local cat 4 crit, but you are going to compromise your visibility and reaction time by using those ridiculous aero bars and wheelsets.
Ive seen more close calls and accidents caused by rider error and lack of attention than anything else. Its time to stop blaming the cars and the roads and take responsibility for our own safety. So, can anyone actually provide some meaningful advice on how to avoid getting into accidents while road cycling, or are you all just going to continue enabling each others reckless behavior?
