  1. Hello,

Why do most road bikes have 700c wheels and mountain bikes have 26 inch? Assuming the tires are
similar what would be the difference in ride quality between the two? With the right tires can a
mountain bike be set up to perform on the road as well as a hybrid or is it better to get a bike
    with taller rims?

    Thanks.

26" slicks on an MTB is a very capable machine. Not as good for a long distance as a real road bike,
but can be at least as good (and more versatile) than a hybrid.

We had a dude that put roadtires on his hybrid last year. He had no problems riding in the pack, but
as soon as it was his turn to pull he kinda slammed into a wall of wind and he'd have to drop back
into shelter again. He never had a chance on packsprints. There's much more to going fast than just
    the tires.

    Not enough to worry about.

Assuming similar weight and component quality, yes.
