No, this is not another post about the weather in So. Cal. I just discovered this board and started riding after a one year hiatus. I moved from San Diego to Murrieta and finally got back on my bikes. I ride a hardtail mountain bike and an older trek carbon on the road. My wife and I ride a tandem. Anyone in the temecula area who wants to ride, send me a pm. I have a pretty flexible schedule. Great forum, guys. I'll be a regular member from here on out.

My wife and I normally ride at odd times, we live in OC, the other side of the Hill to you ( Laguna N), but we always make a point of riding from Balboa to Sunset Beach and back...it's great this time of year, not many suicidal Tourists around...
So if you fancy coming down this way one sunday just let me know...

I'm in South Orange County...Hemet is pretty close to Palm Springs, right? I've never heard of Menifee, and have never been to Sun City. Do you ever ride down this neck of the Woods? I often do the Balboa to Sunset and back Beach run...
🙁 -
Jaguar27, Hemet is about 20 miles as the crow flies from Palm Springs. However, there is a big mountain in the way so it is about a 50 mile ride. I don't get over to Orange County very often. All that traffic stresses me out.

🙁Jaguar27,
I, too, am new to the forum. Living in Fountain Valley, I did the Balboa/Sunset last weekend but currently in pain with gout. I hope I could get on the saddle this weekend. I do ride daily from Tustin Market Plaza to Newport back bay for lunch. -

If you didn't make it this Past Sunday (Jan 11th) you didn't miss much, loads of People..it was a lovely Day but not very good for Biking...
Hope to see you down there someday, I often go during the week, it's brilliant then!!
Hope your Gout gets better, a friend of mine suffers from it from time to time and he said it's very painfull!!

I'll be visiting San Diego in June/July. I'm thinking or taking my road bike with / rent a bike there. Any idea where I can rent a bike around there?
I won't be far from Mission Bay.What are good routes to ride in that area (20 - 60 miles) ?
Are there any cycling club ride from that area?

Are there any cycling club ride from that area?So you're coming from Jo'burg? I used to live in Pretoria, I worked for BMW...
Yes, there are a LOT of nice Rides in that area, I live 90 miles up the coast from San Diego...
Feel free to e-mail me and I'll help you out....
By the way, what size Bike do you ride?

I use to live in Faerie Glen, Pta but works in Jnb - traffic just got to bad and we moved here.
My sister immigrated to San Diego 5 years ago and I'm going to go visit her.
My bike is a size 58.
In SA you can get a race case for round about R1500. That should protect the bike whilst in transit. Suppose I'll have to take out insurance as well. Apparantly the airlines insure based on the weight of the bike ie. the heavier the bike the more it's insured for...what a joke... From what I remember from my last trip, you're allowed 2 pieces of max 32kg each. Does that sound right? That'll mean I wouldn't have to pay extra.
I'll drop you a mail some time...

I'll drop you a mail some time...It's a small world, I lived in Monument Park...I'm from the UK though.
R1500 is about $211.72, I think those Cases cost around $250.00 here...
That's wierd how they calculate the insurance, they obviously don't know that the lighter the road bike is the more it's worth usually 😕
I'm really not up to date as far as Baggage costs on Airlines are concerned I'm afraid...
I normally do this ride:
http://www.biketrails.com/ocbfull.html
It's around 30 miles, but in the Summer it's best to do it early in the morning..there are other great rides too, but this will mean traveling from San Diego, normally around an hour and a half drive..but it's very easy, straight up the coast on the 5 freeway.Almost all the roads where we live have Bike Lanes too although the Traffic is normally pretty heavy...I haven't been hit yet.
As far as I know, there are only Beach Cruiser rentals, and I couldn't imagine riding 30 miles on one of those!!
I'm sorry I can't help much on the San Diego area, I'm sure there must be another Member who can...
But if you come up here for a Day or two maybe we could hook up for a ride? It will be summer then, we're the opposite to SA as you probably know...so bring some summer riding gear!

Actually cycled through Monument Park the other day to get onthe R21 towards the fountain's circle...
Good idea, maybe we can do you the Balboa-Sunset Run. Hopefully I'm still fit then. I'm doing the Cape Argus in March and the Tour Durban end of April, I'll just keep on riding after that.
