I have been in love with road cycling for a while and have decided it’s time to treat myself to a new road bike with a better spec.
My old Trek 1.2 has served me well, but Sora group set feels a bit clunky when I ride hard. When I ride with others, I’m pretty much always the one with the most basic bike.
I have test ridden several bikes and narrowed down to two models. The Cannondale Synapse Carbon Disc or The Bianchi Oltre X-RAY.3. Models below:
I don’t commute and only ride in dry conditions, so I’m not sure if discs are necessary. However I did like the reassurance of the stopping power when I rode the Synapse.
Which is the better bike? Is the Bianchi worth the extra money?
It seems to me that most bike manufacturers are moving toward disc brakes. The bike shop owners I've spoken with the last few weeks also strongly recommend the disc brakes. If you're just riding around town, and you've ridden them both, I think the unassuming but steadfast Cannondale will suit you fine.
If you really like the idea of going super fast and looking like you're going super fast (look at that minty paint job!) go for that Bianchi.
