Heard on the news this morning of the use of bicycle bomb in Afghanistan. Seems to have killed 10
people, many of them apparently kids.
Of course we continuously hear of Islamist's "ultimate weapon", the suicide bomber on foot or in
car, and car bombs in general. I remember a "donkey bomb" on the West Bank last year, but a bike
bomb is a first for me.
Well you make use of what you've got I suppose, but I can't say I've noted too many bicycles being
shown in footage in Afghanistan, or even Iraq, and the few images of bikes in those places seem to
show a Chinese style bike without any baskets or even racks. I would think they would have such
additions in such places.
I suppose the conversion from bike to bomb simply involved hanging a sack with explosives, perhaps
nails and rat poison as well, from the frame or rack along with a timer. Park the bike and run
like hell.
So there you have if folks. The bicycle isn't just a mode of transport, or a means to better health.
It can also be a killing weapon. Never even entered my mind such a low use could be made of such a
great machine. Silly me!
