So, last time I posted, I was experimenting with cleat plates to provide leg length adjustment.
To start with, on the 12th, I have an appointment at a local hospital with a specialist. I'm hoping
something can be done - a brace, excercises, etc - to level my pelvis.
The cleat plates have been of considerable value but they fundamentally cannot fully solve the
improper positioning induced by a pelvic tilt.
Right now, I've got 6mm of plates on the right shoe and my right leg is more comfortable than it has
ever been before. This is not to say it's perfect - in particular, there is an over-emphasis on the
muscles above the bone - but right now I'm just happy to have got to even this point because prior
to this, things were much worse, with far too much load placed on the muscle above the knee.
I've been on a performance plateau for the last few months, at about 250 watts for an hour. In the
last week or so, I found that I was finally normally overspinning in the gear I was using and so
went up one gear, and this new performance level - about 275, 280 - is comfortable.
These are of course unreliable trainer figures, but at least they're measuring more-or-less the same
thing. (I say more-or-less for a reason; if the pressure of the roller against the tyre is high,
apparent wattage drops even though you're working just as hard).
The improper position that I'm in prevents me from spinning properly. I estimate I'm loosing at
least 10% performance because of this.
The speedplay pedals are superb and have helped *enourmously*. Their resistance free play has been
vital in obtaining comfort and performance.
I'll post back after the appointment.
