Hey everyone, new member here. After lurking for a bit I thought this would be a good site to pose my questions:
First off I am new to the sport of cycling but learning fast and improving quickly (and riding as much as my schedule allows, enjoying challenging myself with the help of Strava). Second, I know I do not need a different bike, mine serves me well and improvements are likely to be minor. I currently have a 2011 Trek 1.5 that I bought used. It's in great condition (might have 500 miles on it).
I would like to really start pushing myself further and want to have a bike that is well suited to begin racing as early as late next year. I realize I will not be that good and won't be entering anything too exotic, but I love competition.
I found a (2008?) Trek Madone 4.5 for $500 and a (2011) 5.1 for $1000 and was wondering if either of these would be a worthwhile swap for me to make? Both are in good condition and should not have any upfront costs after the purchase. My budget right now really can't go above $1000 so that is definitely a limiting factor, but if that would allow me to upgrade significantly I'm open to any other options as well (does not have to be Trek).
And if I am better served upgrading my stock wheels and tires on the 1.5 I would be open to that as well, but if I move into another bike that is nicer all around I'm not sure which would be better (bang for the buck)?
I appreciate thoughts and comments on this. As stated from the start, this is really me just catching the cycling bug and as with my other hobbies I like to tinker and improve in any way I can...and yes, yes I know 99% of my improvement will simply come from riding 😉
THANKS!
