New to this forum and road biking but looking for some suggestions on my bike purchase . I am an injured endurance runner looking for a outlet for my pent up energy. I have been doing some road biking this year and really enjoy it , mostly weekend rides 40 -60 miles on borrowed bikes . Now its time to step up and by something of my own. I have narrowed my search down to 4 bikes all with very similar components and all carbon fibre endurance style road bikes. I tend to get lower back problems and thought the more upright less aggressive position would help.
The four bikes are : Scott solace 30 , Cannondale Synapse 105 5 , Cervelo R2 and Kestrel rt-1000.
All the bikes seem to have good reviews with about a $500.00 price difference from lowest to highest. Kestrel being the lowest price and Cervelo being the highest. I can afford the Cervelo but not sure I want to unless there is that much difference in bike and ride quality to make sense . I don't know much about the Kestrel but the others all seem to be popular choices. I do realize that all these bikes are lower end models probably made in China but I have to start some where. Any insight or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I think you'd wanna choose the lowest price for the best quality that suits you and not perhaps the best price or the one that has the most features. I would personally get the cheapest of them.

I have the Synapse 105. The frame is made by Giant in Taiwan. The frames on the others may be comparable. One other thing you need to consider is the warranty. Cannondale's is lifetime to the original purchaser. So is Cervelo's. Scott's is 5 years.

Warranties are bullschit! case in point, I had a Ridley Scandium bike that cracked at the top of the head tube after 3 years of riding and about 4800 miles, Ridley would not warranty it because if failed due to normal wear and tear...fatigue and not workmanship. Warranties are only good if you can prove the damage was due to workmanship. I have a 1984 Trek 660 with a lifetime warranty, so what would happen today if a lugged failed due to questionable brazing? I'm screwed because Trek no longer makes a lugged steel bike, they would probably want to replace it with a cheap aluminum frame even though the 660 was their 2nd for the top of the line bike in 1984! or maybe replace it with a Trek 520 frame! either way I get [censored] for replacement if they give me anything at all because they could say the braze failed due to normal wear and tear. This sort of warranty game playing happens all the time, I've heard it happening of a lot forums and from friends so don't get all hyped on the warranty.
I think the Kestrel rt-1000 represents the best bang for the buck, just my opinion of course.
