As this is my first road bike I decided to take her for my 25 mile loop from my house to a trial around a huge lake and back. This bike is fast!! (for me at least) I normally do this trip in 2 hours on my hybrid, on this bike I knocked off 30 minutes. To me that was huge. I wasn't even trying to race, I just used the bike as it was intended, and found it effortlessly flying down the path ( I now see why road bikers wear helmets, which I did) It's light and smooth, shifted great, and I got used to the low position riding quickly, although when I returned I did feel like I got run over my a dump truck LOL...I guess this should get easier over time............next test will be me Cannondale, cant wait for that trip!

ORIGINAL POST:
Just bought the Cannondale Synapse Ultegra Disc. I test rode Trek Domane, Giant Defy, Specialized Roubaix and came back to the Cannondale. I too just upgraded from a Hybrid. The hybrid has its uses, but I sure do love flying by on the road bike.
Enjoy the test rides!!! You will probably have an easier time of it than me, at 5'6" it was impossible to find bikes in my size to test ride. I really had to go all over.
EDIT:
Umm is this the Trek 400 - like the 20+ year old model Trek 400 series?

yeah she was born in the 80's and whoever restored made it look like it came off the line.....one comment however, you are the perfect size what the industry calls the Norm as far as height............its MUCH harder for guys like me 6 foot 3, trust me, nothing is big enough

You might want to try rotating your bars, lowering your stem an inch (it looks very close to being unsafe), leveling your seat and installing toe clips/strap or clipless pedals. Bolt on a couple bottle cages before your next lap around the lake and stay hydrated.
Stay safe and have fun on that classic TREK!
