  1. I have a Trek 1.1 that I bought in 2011. It is all aluminum. On a flat surface I manage to do 17-19 mph on a calm day. I am wondering if upgrading to an all carbon or somehow better bike would allow me to do over 20 mph steadily. Any suggestions?

  2. If there's nothing wron with it, keep riding and enjoying your 1.1. Concentrate on upgrades that will make you more comfortable and more efficient on the bike--fit items like saddle, stem, and handlebar, and performance items like pedals and tires--and keep it in top-notch working order. That means keeping it clean and tuned and replacing parts when they become worn.

When you're ready for a new bike you'll know it, and you'll have better knowledge of the bike you want.

  3. I've got a trek 1.1 that I love and when I first got it, I averaged 20 to 21 mph. After a few months it seemed like my average dropped to about 17-18 mph. I was worried that it was over training and I had my bike looked over just to be sure. My lbs mechanic looked at 1 thing and told me he knew what was gong on. The grease they use in the wheels is pretty thick and after a few hindered miles of use was gumming up the bearings. He changed the grease for a thinner type and now I'm going faster than ever. By the way I'm a bigger guy (215 lbs at 6'2"😉 so I fight a lot of wind and gravity It my just need a tune up
