I am converting my road bike to a flat bar and have bought shimano ef-65 shifter/brake levers. My derailleurs are (cheap) shimano 2300. I cannot get the shifting to cooperate. The rear derailleur won't shift over from 1st to 2nd until I have shifted the shifter 2 or 3 times. Would the 2300 derailleurs have a different ratio than the shifters? If that's the case then I'll go find an Alivio derailleur, but if I dont HAVE to, then I'd like to use what I've got. Thanks

Ok I figured out my issue. After going back and re-adjusting my rear derailleur, I got it to shift perfectly. I didn't realize how far over my derailleur was to begin with.
