New armor to crash in...abrasion resistant fabric

I like it!

But...
how stretchy is it?
does it hold up to frequent washes?
and there is a difference between a balloon and, say an elbow. The balloon offers a very distributed pressure, while something bony like an elbow would offer a more concentrated load.
Anyhow, HAS to be a step in the right direction. I'm not a fan of smearing myself all over the road.

Why was the guy wearing a safety suit and why didn't they show the result of the sander on the arm? I could have used a bit of extra abrasion resistance a few weeks back. Although, the areas of my skin covered by my kit fared pretty well in comparison to the exposed portions. I tore a few holes, but I was able to sew them up satisfactorily to be used for training. If the fabric is competitive in price and performance (thermal and moisture management) as existing stuff, I would give it a try.

I usually return to planet earth hard enough the abrasions are the least of my worries. Hip pointers...bone bruises...deep gashes (Contador style!)...bike and/or wheels in multiple pieces...the road offers more coarse abuse than what looks to be 220 grit.

Still, in a routine slide, any additional protection is appreciated. I used to do crits in long sleeve jerseys on 95° days just for a little extra insurance.

I never did figure out why those criterium pads didn't catch on. Hell, shoulder pads, elbow cups and a Moto GP spine protector should be mandatory gear for racing with the local squids.

Scott is the leader in helmet safety technology so maybe this new fabric is something to consider? I too would have like to seen the video with the guy sanding away on his elbow with the fabric on but noticed they stopped the film before he actually touches it? The other thing I wonder about too about this fabric is how well does it breath? Technology is always advancing so maybe Scott is on the cusp of inventing something radically new in cycling fabric. We'll have to wait and see.

It's good that protective uniforms are now mandatory for all competitors. This makes the competition safer for the health of the participants.
