Need help with new crankset

Crank arm length is up to the user and pretty flexible. The important questions are, what kind of crank is on there now, does it have triple or double chainrings, what kind of bottom bracket is on there now, do you intend to replace the bottom bracket too, and exactly what do you expect to gain by swapping the crankset?

The crankset is just an alloy set-up, no name. I am hoping to replace a few parts to make the bike lighter and get a better ride. I have seen a few great deals on ebay for full Dura Ace cranksets. WIll this not make a difference? I also plan on getting a carbon seat post and some decent wheels.

FYI. Whether or not you will see ANY advantage to a Dura Ace crankset over what you have probably depends on the actual crankset AND ESPECIALLY the chainrings which are currently on your bike + which shifters your are using ...

Regardless, if there isn't a physical problem with the Bottom Bracket which is currently on your bike, then there may be close to ZERO advantage to changing to a Dura Ace crankset ...

The chainrings MAY make a difference, or not!

• Dura Ace & Ultegra chainrings tend to have cutting edge ramping-and-pinning; but, FSA & Token & other brands certainly have nicely ramped-and-pinned chainrings
  

I am ALL IN on making mechanical and/or cosmetic changes to a bike ...

BUT, your best bet is often on better tires AND tubes, first ....

The wheels MAY make a difference ...

• if the wheels have Shimano hubs, simply adjusting them properly may be all that needs to be done (the less expensive Shimano hubs typically come from the factory a little tighter than necessary) to make the wheels roll better.
  

Beyond cosmetics, a carbon fiber seatpost makes VERY LITTLE difference, IMO ...

• again, NOTHING wrong with making cosmetic changes ... at least, not after the mechanical issues are addressed
  

Gee, alf and I have been agreeing lately. About some stuff, anyway.

Don't upgrade until you have a better reason for doing it and a better idea of the compatibility issues you could be getting into.

If there's nothing wrong with what's on the bike, go for a ride.
