Ditch those brakes! Invest in a set of decent hydraulic discs, or save yourself the weight and hassle issues and get v-brakes! Interesting choice of stem too, doesn't that make the handling really twitchy?
Looks nice other than that. But I like my bike better. As I should.
clipless pedals are not for NYC, these pedals allow me to demolish obstacles with them, fast dismount, super stick to your feet,allow ease of movement, allow so much **** and I do not have to learn that clipless pedal handicap retardedness.

The brakes are VERY nice, I had XT V-Brakes, the M750s, they are top notch in the rim style but, these are really good brakes. In comparison to the Magura Julie hydraulics, these are killer brakes.
The handling is very percise, I like it that way, because I just cruise a lot of times, leaned back and steer with three fingers on the left **** with my hand on the front brake.

But dude, you don't have to buy 29"-specific tubes. The 29ers are actually a 700c mtb wheel. You could take the rims off of one of those heavy touring rigs, and they would be interchangeable. So 29" tubes are actually the 700x~50 tubes (~US$8).
I have found that you can use the 700x45 tubes (aka the 27"x1 and 3/4"😉 instead of buying the more costly 700x50s; they run the standard price of US$3-4.
And for the record, I'm just talking trash for fun. Since your secret project is a Gary Fisher, it is sure to rock, and rock hard at that!
