  1. I've heard of some weird specialist socks, but never thought cycling ones would be made. Turns out, they're not actually that bad as long as they are lightweight. Just received mine from Sock Mine and am giving them a trial run later to see how they get on compared to normal ankle socks or football socks as i have previously wore. Anyone else use specialist cycle socks or is it just me?

  2. Probably everyone on this forum owns several pair of cycling socks.

  3. Yup.

  4. I use regular gym socks most of the time or ride sockless with cycling sandals.

In cold weather, either neoprene socks or wool.

  5. Never gave cycling socks a try. Is there really an advantage to weight/heat?

Heat, yes. Weight, not so much.

If you notice the difference in sock weights while riding, you should consider becoming a scientific instrument, like perhaps an analytical scale. The correct socks can manage heat in the summer and winter. Good socks can also provide foot comfort on those long days in the saddle.

  8. I have tried cycling socks and I find I am most comfortable with regular gym socks. Normal thick socks. So that's what I use

  9. I'm a big fan of wool (blend) socks. I wear thick, mid-calf length merino wool socks when I'm wearing work boots (~6 days/week), even in the hot summer, and I wear below-the-ankle or ankle-length wool blend cycling socks (UnderArmor) when I'm wearing sneakers. Of course, I also wear those socks when I'm cycling... Any cotton tube socks I have left are in the back of the drawer, sitting unused since I discovered cycling socks several years ago.

Anyway, even though wool may be a little warmer in the summer than other materials, it does an excellent job at keeping the moisture away from the skin, which is much more important, IMHO.

  10. I use them to control moisture and in the winter they are used to help keep feet warm. I've used regular cotton socks and they get and stay wet and damp and I don't like that feeling. I usually have to change cotton socks at least 2-3 times a day because of the moisture they retain, so you can imagine how it would be when cycling.
