So I picked up a complete wired PT wheelset for $300. Dura-Ace 7400 front hub, both wheels with Kinlin XR-240 rims, both 32 hole. I've really enjoyed using it and have no major complaints, other having to merge my GPX and PT data files.
I contacted PowerTap today to see if they still do Wireless upgrades, which they do. It'd cost $350 for the overhaul, but that would bring it up to ANT+ standards. So that's cool.
So I'm looking at $650 for the PowerTap investment so far, which I'm ok with. It's just that when I look at having the wheels rebuilt, it pretty much sounds like I'll have to get a new wheel built after the PT upgrade. So now I'm considering if I'm going to have to pay to get a new wheel built, would I just be better off selling it and buying a brand new PT, I could then possibly get a smaller spoke count? I personally don't see that much of a need of it, especially if the hub is going to get a complete overhaul it'd be practically brand new. I'm just not sure what to do about putting it back into a wheel (and trying to have a matching front).
Any thoughts or opinions? I looked at the Stages Power Meter, but they don't seem to have a decent SRAM road BB30 option.
