  1. I haven't ridden in over a week. Last week I went up country to spend Christmas there. Got back home
last Saturday, but I still haven't ridden. Now I've got this stiff, achy pain in my left hip/lower
back, like the sciatica is starting to come back. If I don't ride soon, I fear I'll disintegrate or
something. Dorian Gray had his portrait; we've got riding. Too bad bikes weren't around in Ponce de
Leon's day -- he'd have found what he was looking for. I'll get some kilometers in tomorrow. By hook
    or by crook.

    cheers, Tom

Sounds like you need a folding pocket bike that you can take with you everywhere. To the movies, in
    the bath ...

It's too late. Even a week of complete rest is enough to lose significant fitness. What were you
    thinking!?

BTW, the effect of becoming addicted to exercise is real. You begin to enjoy the endorphin hit so
much that missing it will cause annoyance. My wife gets pretty wierded out by how I can get when I
have to take the car to work instead of riding, or miss one too many rides with the boys.

Neither my wife nor I can sleep until we have both had our exercise "fix."

    I can't think of a better addiction!

I've been pretty cranky about the whole car thing. I spent a lot of my two weeks totally without
bike muttering under my breath "I hate driving to work, bleah!" I definitely have been kind of
listless. Plus this time of year is the absolute worst time not to be cycling. Between being
bikeless and holiday meals and what-not I know I've gained weight.
