Sometimes the gps might lose signal and not record the whole ride. I am currently using a custom ROM on an android phone (which costed me my warranty and now I cannot fix my $@#@ headphones for free [IMG]/img/vbsmilies/smilies/mad.gif[/IMG]) and it sometimes crashes. I dont know if its because of the ROM or because of the program. Except from the GPS crashes though I never had any data lost...

I had a custom ROM on my old phone and had trouble constantly with getting a GPS signal, or worse it would lose the signal half way through the ride. After an 8 mile run one day, I got a bunch of sweat inside the screen and finally had enough. I chucked the phone and bought a new one. Got a Galaxy S4 and works perfect every time now. One time my phone died due to a low batter, but when I got home and charged it the data was still there(up to when it died). Looking back on my last phone, deleting the software that came with it and putting a custom ROM on there was the biggest mistake. Caused way more headaches then advantages. I'll never do that again.

Actually except for the shop that bought the phone not fixing the headphones plug because of the custom rom, I am really really happy with the custom rom. Instead of just 150mb which were gone after 4 applications installed, with the custom rom I have -4gb of free space (since the custom rom is using the external memory) The battery lasts longer too and it has all the programs the oem rom had in. I think you got a bad rom on your phone. If you find a "stable" and "complete" rom you probably wont have any problems. That is ofcourse if the shop doesnt mind the custom rom for hardware repairs...

I tried different ones. It was a pain to update every time and they were constantly updating them fixing errors. I'll just stick with the software currently on my new phone and allow it to update whenever without having to do anything. So much easier.

Hmmm the last rom I installed was the jaggyrom (if you google it its on the normal nerd hangouts like xdadevelopers etc). I also installed CyanoGenMod or something like that that is supposed to be a super bad-ass rom. The cyanogenmod one didnt have any of the basic programms installed in it (google etc) plus lots of stuff didnt work... But it was supposed to be a fast rom and the interface was entirely different from the stock rom. I suspect that this is the case with the updates you had a problem with. when I installed the jaggyrom rom, (this is starting to get nerdy :big-smile🙂 it had a list of things that worked and things that dont work with this rom. On the things that dont work it simply said "none". Whilst some other roms stated that there were problems with the camera, wifi etc... Basically if you are happy with the rom then then is no point rooting the phone. I rooted mine because I had to either spend more $$$ for a phone with more internal memory or just root it and flash the custom rom. The advantages I got were infinite applications installed, everything works fast and smooth and the battery lasts longer too because there are fewer background programms running. 😎
