I like steel framesets, BTW. I think the other three materials have drawbacks, like crash
worthiness, cost, durability, looks, etc.

For me, all of the above.

(although I must admit with some chagrin that there's a big box due tomorrow afternoon with an
aluminum frame in it; this will be my first actual ownership of a frame in that material. I've
ridden a number of them, but this will be the first that's mine.)

Yeah, but some carbon frames can be repaired too. For example, the following
Calfee carbon frame was repaired for $250:

Don't know as the photo didn't say how the frame was broken. However, I once crashed my steel frame
bike and bent both the down and top tube. The cost to replace both tubes PLUS paint was more than
$250, it now hangs in my garage....
