power tap + wheel

My first set of PowerTap wheels were built on the DT Swiss R1.1 rims. Very nice wheels, no complaints whatsoever. I later had one on their deeper road rim and that was very nice as well. I believe DT Swiss has changed the numbering scheme on their rims, but they still build up into very nice wheelsets.

I don't have any experience with the DT Swiss clincher that Cycleops sells, but I would advise you to not have a wheel built by a wheel builder who is not experienced in building PT wheels. There are lacing requirements that need to be respected. I'm sure there are others that know what they are doing, but if you don't have better alternatives I can vouch for my wheel builder: prowheelbuilder.comprowheelbuilder.comOpen ↗. Thanks guys. Its seems that DT makes a nice wheel but I'm wondering if I might get a little better wheel by going to a custom guy? RD I'll check your guy out!!

Yeah, nothing wrong with the DT rims, but if there's something particular you're after like a deep aero rim or a wide clincher rim then there's some very good options out there.

Other good rims to consider are Kinlins (XR-270, XR-300 or newer XC-279 wide semi deep rim) or the HED Belgiums or Velocity A23 for deeper and or wider rims, any of which can be built into a nice PT wheelset.

You should consider the new Pacenti rims: http://fairwheelbikes.com/pacenti-sl23-rim-p-5634.html . Pacenti designed them with Fair Wheel Bikes, and the Fair Wheel Bikes know their stuff. They're the go-to LBS in Tucson, the foyer in Cycling Heaven. There are other rims to consider, of course, and as it happens Fair Wheel Bikes has just completed an overview/review of 14 alloy clincher rims. I'm going to buy a cyclops power tap. Does anybody have any experience with the DT swiss clincher wheel that they sell as a complete package? I can always have a custom wheel made up with the power tap or just go with their package deal. There's not any wheel builders in my area, so it would be easy to buy the whole set up from Cyclops. Any comments?

I try to keep the same rims on all of my wheels. It makes the same tire fit all the wheels. It is not fun to have to find out that your favorite tires are too tight to fit on one of your rims.
