Don't confuse US made with US based. SRAM Rival and Force are made in Taiwan. I don't know what else of SRAM's is made overseas. As for the LBS guy's comments, he's got a bias. There is nothing objective that reveals SRAM products as inferior to Shimano or Campagnolo.

Thanks i didn't know sram does manufacturing in Taiwan. Yea i figured he was based anyway, but i am still going to try out the rival group. And its a done deal because i have already made the purchase anyway.

Ok will do. I heard good thing about SRAMS RED/FORCE/RIVAL groups so far just by goggling SRAM groups. But i will get back to the forum and give my review for sure.

There's a lot of anti-SRAM bias going around. I believe most of it is due to mechanics who had worked on 9-speed Shimano for ten years and thought they could work on SRAM the same way. Hell, even the switch to Shimano 10-speed was a learning curve.

My new bike has Force. So far, I'm delighted with it.

With Shimano/Sram it's sort of a Chevy/Ford thing. After using Shimano for all my riding experience and working at a bike shop, SRAM is just as durable as Shiamno or Campy. But, my 2 cents is this: Shiamno shifts much smoother and quieter than either groups. Both SRAM and Campy are loud and clunky. The SRAM/Campy shifting takes getting used to. That being said, most folks who have used other than Shimano will say the same about the shifting on Shiamno. I tend to say Shmano is "user friendly". Shiamno shifting much more precise and just feels better. With all that said, either group will last if taken care of properly. Chevy/Ford, it's your choice. Just try them all and go have fun and ride.

Well got the bike done yesterday. So today i went for a ride, and i must say it is a big deference from what i had on the bike. The crank is much much stiffer than my FSA VERO that was on the bike. The shifting didn't take long to get use to. And i really love this feature where u just hold the right shifter in and it would shift up to multiple gears at the same time. This had me smiling so cool. My bike felt smoother and even faster, just feels like it wants to go. I am really liking my SRAM RIVAL RED setup. Got the RED compact crank with BB used of eBay ebay for $155 in great condition. and the RIVAL shifters RD and FR new from EBAY also. Every thing came to $450 plus i was able to sell my old set up for $130. not a bad trade of i think. And i did all the work my self. So far i am loving it, WOW![IMG]cyclingforums.com700Open ↗[/IMG]

I've never used Shimano so I can't comment. I've been running Rival for two years now. No complaints.
